Operating System

Required: Windows 11

As of October 14, 2025. Microsoft no longer provides security updates for Windows 10. As a result of this end of service life, the CTT will end support of Windows 10 in December, 2025. Windows 11 will be required for all software developed and supported by the CTT moving forward.

CPU

Minimum: 1 GHz 64-bit (x64) Intel Core 2 Duo / AMD Ryzen 64 X2

Recommended: 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo or greater / AMD Ryzen 64 X2 or newer

Larger jurisdictions should consider the fastest processor available, within their budget, for improved performance.

RAM

Minimum: 2 GB RAM

Recommended: 4 GB or more

Larger jurisdictions should consider larger amounts of RAM for improved performance (4 GB is the maximum for 32bit operating systems).

Hard drive

1 GB per-installation; 4 GB per-database

Roadsoft install is approximately 125 MB. For small jurisdictions, Roadsoft database is approximately 50 MB. Larger jurisdictions can expect database sizes around, or in excess of, 4 GB.

Graphics

LDC Minimum: 1024 x 600

Roadsoft Minimum: 1024 x 768

The Laptop Data Collector can also support a netbook resolution of 1024x600.
Roadsoft will run on a screen of 1024x768, but not all windows will fit.

**new ultra HD screen resolutions may not display properly.

Recommended: 1600x1200 w/ 32 bit color mode

GPS for Laptop Data Collector

The LDC can connect with USB GPS units that support NMEA 0183, such as the Globalsat BU-353-S4, BU-353-N5, and BU-353NC, as well as the various versions of the VK-162. External Trimble GNSS receivers like the R1 and R2 can also be connected to a laptop or Windows tablet via Bluetooth. See Roadsoft LDC Trimble R2 GPS Receiver Setup for more information. Roadsoft Mobile

Roadsoft Mobile is designed for tablet devices, but will run on most modern Android and iOS mobile devices. Devices must have access to wireless service. Minimum versions are Android 10 and iOS 11.

SQL Server

Roadsoft requires the use of SQL Server or SQL Server Express to build and host databases.

We recommend using our packaged instance of SQL Server Express.

Minimum: SQL Server/SQL Server Express 2016

Microsoft announced they will be ending extended support of SQL Server 2014 in July, 2024. CTT stopped support of SQL Server 2014 in January, 2025.

Recommended: SQL/SQL Server Express 2016 or newer

Supported: SQL/SQL Server Express versions 2016, 2017, 2019, 2022

Roadsoft's Bridge module is a comprehensive data storage solution for local agencies in Michigan that need to track bridge inspection and maintenance information. The module receives annual updates of National Bridge Inventory inspection reports from an MDOT database.

Roadsoft's Crash module allows you to review and analyze imported crash data in conjunction with Roadsoft's Safety Analysis tools. It allows you to analyze up to 10 years of crash data taken from redacted incident reports.

Roads

The Road module is the basis for your entire asset management system and comes pre-populated with your agency’s GIS map. Inventory fields for road name, legal class and functional class all come pre-populated from information from the Michigan Framework Basemap which is updated annually.

Culverts

Roadsoft's Culvert module contains information about culvert locations, conditions, and types. The built-in filter, network, and reporting tools allow you to select a series of culverts along a waterway and generate a list of maintenance needs and work orders.

Safety Analysis Tools

Roadsoft users can take advantage of the Safety Analysis tools to filter, sort, and analyze patterns in the crash data using network-screening algorithms. Potential network screening can help identify problem areas at road segments, intersections, and on curves. Roadsoft includes NCHRP (National Cooperative Highway Research Program) documentation to find countermeasures that will reduce the frequency and severity of crashes.

Roadsoft's Driveway module allows users to identify and record the location of public and private driveways in your jurisdiction.

Signs

Roadsoft's Sign module gives you a way to inventory signs and plan maintenance on signs that are reported as damaged or lost by the public. You can also use the module to inspect and maintain the retroreflectivity of your signs, which is now required by the FHWA.

Traffic Count

Roadsoft's Traffic Count module lets you enter data from both automatic and manual (staff conducted) traffic counts. Using this information, you can create reports to submit to the Highway Performance Monitoring System (HPMS) and make decisions on which roads should receive priority for maintenance and safety countermeasures.
