Add, Edit & Delete Pavement Ratings & Treatments

While the Laptop Data Collector (LDC) is the preferred tool for collecting pavement ratings, it is possible to input pavement rating information directly into Roadsoft as well. To use the LDC to collect pavement ratings, see Rate Roads in the LDC. Rating roads makes it easier to identify roads in need of maintenance or reconstruction and plan work accordingly. For more information on using PASER ratings, see the PASER Cheat Sheet.

In addition, the Transportation Asset Management Council (TAMC) annually requires surface types, PASER numbers, and the number of lanes for at least 50% of all Federal-aid eligible paved roads. Roadsoft and the LDC are capable of recording and submitting that information.

While the PASER system can be used to rates unpaved roads as well, the Center for Technology and Training (CTT) recommends using the Inventory-Based Rating System (IBR). For information on the IBR system see the IBR Field Guide, and to rate a road using the IBR system see Rate Gravel Roads Using the Inventory-based Rating System (IBR).
