Upload for Mobile

Before a database file is accessible in Roadsoft Mobile, it needs to be uploaded into cloud storage. Roadsoft Mobile can then download the database file, make changes, and upload it back into the cloud for loading back into desktop Roadsoft. Agencies must have a Roadsoft Cloud Key to use the cloud. Agencies can request a Roadsoft Cloud Key from the Center for Technology & Training.

Think of uploading data from Roadsoft to Roadsoft Mobile and back again as a cycle – the data uploads from Roadsoft to the cloud and then downloads to Mobile, and after making changes the file is submitted to cloud storage again and downloaded back into desktop Roadsoft. For help submitting data from Mobile and downloading it back into Roadsoft, see Submit and Download Completed Work.

Upload a File from Roadsoft to the Cloud

With desktop Roadsoft open:

Select the File option from the Main Menu Options.

Select the Export/Upload option.

Select the Upload for Mobile… option.

Select the Yes or No buttons to indicate whether the data is for the Transportation Asset Management Council (TAMC).

Select the Check Box next to a desired asset type.

Select the Export Network check box below an asset to choose a filter.

Not using a filter uploads all asset data in the database. Uploading all asset data is not ideal for databases with large amounts of asset data (4000+ assets) because large datasets will decrease the performance of Roadsoft Mobile.

Select a filter from the Load Saved Filter window.

For instructions on using the Filter Builder to make a new filter or edit an existing one, see Use the Filter Builder.

Select the OK button to use the selected filter, or select the Cancel button to close the window.

Select the Upload button to use the selected data, or select the Cancel button to close the window.

Select the field from the Set Display Name window to enter a name for the file.

The name defaults to the same naming format as Laptop Data Collector export files: RStoLDC_Area_YYYY_MM_DD_HH_MI. Some other good naming practices are naming the file after the work crew involved and the date (WorkCrew_Area_YYYY_MM_DD_HH_MI, or the assets concerned (signs and sidewalks, culvert only, etc) and the date (CulvertOnly_Area_YYYY_MM_DD_HH_MI).

Select the OK button to upload the file to the Cloud, or select the Cancel button to close the window without uploading the file.

Download a File from the Cloud to Mobile

With Roadsoft Mobile open:

Select the Download File button from the Manage Database menu.

Select the desired file from the list.

If the desired database file is not visible, try downloading it from desktop Roadsoft to the cloud again.

Select the Ok button to load the file, or select the Cancel button to close the window without downloading a file.
