Import Short Count Format

Data from MDOT can be imported into Roadsoft using the Short Count Format. Regular data can be imported using this format as well.

Short Count Format Setup

Setting up the Short Count Format .csv requires exact positioning of data in the specified columns and rows. Review the Short Count Format Column Definition document for details on the necessary columns for this format. A Sample Short Count Format CSV is also available.

MP should have a decimal.

Start Hour column should contain values 100-2400 (military time).

There are 24 hourly columns H1- H24. Start the counts in the column corresponding to the start hour (E.g. If the traffic count started at 1100 (am), the 1100 (am) count results are entered in column H11).

Each row in the .csv is a day, with the date in the year/month/day columns. Counts extend to the next row once the day has passed.

Split 24 hour counts into two rows if they span multiple days. (E.g. If the traffic count started at 11pm, the 12pm count results are entered in column H24, then 1 am count results are entered in column H1 of the second row. Zeros are placed in columns H1 – H22 of the first row and also in columns H24 in the second row).

For the second row of a 24 hour count, use start hour 100, the date should be the next consecutive date from the entry in the first row. Put zero (0) for hours on row 1 before the start hour and past the 24 hour point.

Split 48 hour counts into 3 rows. (E.g. If the traffic count started at 11pm, the 12pm count results are entered in column H24, then 1 am count results are entered in column H1 of the second row. Counts are completed in the second row all the way through H24. Zeros are placed in columns H1 – H22 of the first row and also in columns H24 in the third row).

For a 48 hour count, the second row has all 24 values filled in. The start hour is 100, the date should be the next consecutive date from the entry in the first row. The third row, start hour is 100. Put zero (0) for hours on row 1 before the start hour and past the 48 hour point.

Counts from the start hour on will be loaded; any counts before the start hour will be skipped.

If there are items that fail to import, a report will be generated and the report file will be saved to the same location that the imported .csv file was selected from. For example, if the .csv file is saved to the desktop, the failure report will be saved to the desktop.
