Latest Rating vs. Current Rating
There are three terms commonly used in Roadsoft to describe various aspects of road ratings.
Surface Rating – a large umbrella term for road observation or activity (inspection, treatment, etc.). In Roadsoft reports, this term is used for summaries and/or historical figures of ratings which could include previously entered road observation/activities, latest rating, and/or current rating depending on the report criteria selected.
Latest Rating – the last visual road observation or activity (inspection, treatment, etc.) entered.
Current Rating – an estimated rating for the current year. This rating is a projection of what the estimated rating is and takes into account the rating curve that is selected, rating history, and treatment history.
Road Module – Latest vs. Current
The road module will display the current rating under the surface section of the selected segment. The current rating is calculated by Roadsoft using algorithms, the rating history entered by the agency, and the passage of time (Roadsoft assumes that over time the road surface will deteriorate).
Example
Latest rating = 10 – Excellent on 9/23/2013
Current rating = 9 – Excellent on 4/8/2014
In this example, the current rating is calculated as a 9 because the rating was entered in the previous year.
The road was rated on 9/23/2013 – the segment was selected on 4/8/2014 – if this same segment was selected again on 4/8/2015, the current rating may read 8 or lower (if no other ratings were added, and depending on the deterioration model used).
