Use the Filter Builder

The Filter feature in Roadsoft filters assets for data collection, reports, safety analysis, and strategy evaluation and optimization. Filters are creatable and usable for all point and line layers within Roadsoft. Filter features are not available for polygon or external layers.

Create a New Filter

Select the desired layer.

Select the Filter button from the Map Tool Options.

Select the Filter Builder… button.

Select the All Field Groups drop-down menu to select a group of fields.

Select the Find field… field to enter a field name to search for.

Select a field from the Field list.

Select an operator from the Operator list.

Select or enter a value from the Value list.

Select the Group field to enter which group the criteria is in.

All criteria are part of Group 1 unless changed. Filters display assets that meet all the criteria in a group, but an asset only needs to meet the criteria of one group to appear. Number groups in whole numbers from one to four.

Select the Add button.

Filters can have multiple criteria added to them.

Remove criteria

Right-click criteria from the list.

Select the Clear Selected Criteria option.

Clear all criteria

Select the Clear button

Select the Yes button to clear all criteria, or select the No button to close the window.

Save the filter.

Select the Save button

Select the Name field to enter a name.

Select the Group drop-down menu to add the filter to a group.

Select the Description field to enter a description.

Select the Shared Filter check box to share the filter with other database users.

Select the Save As button to save the filter, or select the Cancel button to close the window.

Select the Apply as Filter button to apply the filter to the map.

Select filter assets.

Append to Selection – Add filter assets to any currently selected assets.

Replace Selection – Replace any currently selected assets with filter assets.

Select the X button to close the Sign Filter Builder window.

Edit a Filter

Select the desired layer.

Select the Filter button from the Map Tool Options.

Select the Filter Builder… option.

Select the Open button.

Select the desired filter name.

Select the Ok button to load the filter, or select the Cancel button to close the window.

Add criteria.

Select the All Field Groups drop-down menu to select a field group.

Select the Find field… field to enter a field name to search for.

Select a field from the Field list.

Select an operator from the Operator list.

Select the Value field to enter or select a value.

Select the Group field to enter which group the criteria is in.

Select the Yes button to clear all criteria, or select the No button to close the window.

Select the Save button

Select the Save… option to save over the original filter, or select the Save as New Filter… option to save as a new filter.

Select the Name field to enter a name.

Cannot change the name is saving over an existing filter.

Select the Group drop-down menu to add the filter to a group.

Select the Description field to enter a description.

Select the Shared Filter check box to share the filter with other database users.

Select the Save button to save the filter, or select the Cancel button to close the window.

When saving a new filter, the Save button becomes the Save As button.

Select the Apply as Filter button to apply the filter to the map.

Select filtered assets.

Append to Selection – Add filter assets to any currently selected assets.

Replace Selection – Replace any currently selected assets with filter assets

Select the X button to close the Sign Filter Builder window.

Delete a Filter

Select the desired layer.

Select the Filter button from the Map Tool Options.

Select the Manage Filters… option.

Select the desired filter name.

Select the Delete button.

Select the Yes button to delete the filter, or select the No button to close the window.

Apply a Saved Filter

Select the desired layer.

Select the Filter button from the Map Features.

Select the Apply Saved Filter… option.

Select the desired filter name.

Select the OK button to apply the filter, or select the Cancel button to close the window.

Roadsoft will only apply one filter to a layer at a time. The newly applied filter replaces any filter already in use.

Clear a Filter from the Map

Select the desired layer.

Select the Filter button from the Map Tool Options.

Select the Clear Filter… option.

Save Selection as a Filter

Select the desired layer.

Select assets from the map.

Select the Filter button from the Map Tool Options.

Select the Save Selection as Filter… option.

Select the Name field to enter a name.

Select the Group drop-down menu to select a group of filters.

Select the Shared Filter check box to share the filter with database other users.

Select the Save button to save the filter, or select the Cancel button to close the window.
