Create a New Database or Use Multiple Databases

Roadsoft allows you to set up multiple databases for different areas. This means users may need to create and navigate between multiple databases on their server. Roadsoft databases are saved and shared between computers using Microsoft’s SQL Server software, which is available at no charge for Roadsoft users from the Roadsoft website. A supported version of SQL Server (2014 or newer) must be installed before managing databases. For instructions on downloading and installing SQL Server, see Manually Install SQL Express.

Create a New Roadsoft Database

Select the Options… button from the Roadsoft User Login window.

Select the Create New Database… option from the list.

Select the Server drop-down list and choose the desired server.

For stand-alone servers, the server is generally the machine that Roadsoft is installed on.

Select the Database field and enter a name for the database.

The default name for the database is Roadsoft. Database names must begin with “Roadsoft_” or “RS_” (for example, RS_CountyName).

Select the Create Database button.

Select the OK button to create the database, or select the Cancel button to go back to the Create SQL Database window.

It may take a few minutes to create the database.

Select the OK button from the Created Successfully window.

Select the New Password field to enter a new password for the admin account on this database.

Select the Confirm Password field to enter the same new password.

Make sure to remember the new admin password.

Select the Load From File button to choose a framework data file to use, or select the Use Current Data button to reuse the last framework data file used.

Creating a new database for a jurisdiction requires a FWVersionInfo.dat file of it first.

Switch between Different Roadsoft Databases

Select the Options… button from the Roadsoft User Login window.

Select the Change Server/Database… option from the list.

Select the Server drop-down list and choose the desired server.

Select the Database drop-down list and choose the desired database.

Select the Connect button to open the database, or select the Cancel button to close the window.

Log in to Roadsoft with the desired database as usual.
