Add, Edit, or Delete Linear Pavement Mark Types

As linear pavement markings are physically added or changed in a jurisdiction, it is advisable to use the Laptop Data Collector (LDC) for Linear Pavement Marking data collection. However, default mark types and metadata associated with mark types can be set up in Roadsoft to make data entry quicker for both the LDC and Roadsoft.

Add New Linear Mark Type

By default, Roadsoft comes with linear pavement mark types like Edge Line, Passing Zone: Left Pass, Passing Zone: Right Pass, etc. However, agencies may have additional mark types that are used which can be added to Roadsoft.

With the Linear Pavement Marking layer visible and active:

Select a segment.

Select View Module from the map menu.

Select the Defaults button from the Linear Marks tab.

Select Edit Linear Mark Types from the list.

Choose an action to take:

Select the Add New button to add a new mark type.

Complete all the fields in the Edit Mark Types window.  

Line Quantity: Select the Single or Double radio button.

Description: Enter a description.

Abbreviation: Enter an abbreviation for the description.

Display Priority: Enter a value.

Line Style: Select a style from the drop-down options.

Color: Select a color from the drop-down options.

Select the Manage Colors link to add, edit, or delete colors in the linear mark type color list.

Select the Save button.

Repeat steps for each new mark type.

Edit Linear Mark Type

By default, Roadsoft comes with linear pavement mark types like Edge Line, Passing Zone: Left Pass, Passing Zone: Right Pass, etc. However, agencies may edit any mark types that have been added. Some default mark types are not editable.

With the Linear Pavement Marking layer visible and active:

Select a segment.

Select View Module from the map menu.

Select the Defaults button from the Linear Marks tab.

Select Edit Linear Mark Types from the list.

Choose an action to take:

Select the desired mark type to edit from the Mark Types list (default mark types are not editable).

Edit the desired fields in the Edit Mark Types window.  

Line Quantity: Select the Single or Double radio button.

Description: Edit the description.

Abbreviation: Edit the abbreviation for the description.

Display Priority: Edit the value.

Delete Linear Mark Type

By default, Roadsoft comes with linear pavement mark types like Edge Line, Passing Zone: Left Pass, Passing Zone: Right Pass, etc. Some default mark types are not removable; however, mark types added by the agency can be deleted.

With the Linear Pavement Marking layer visible and active:

Select a segment.

Select View Module from the map menu.

Select the Defaults button from the Linear Marks tab.

Select Edit Linear Mark Types from the list.

Select the desired mark type to delete from the Mark Types list (default mark types are not removable).

Select the Delete Mark Type link.

Select the Yes button to confirm delete.
