Existing Database – Before Installing or Updating

If you are installing Roadsoft and/or the Laptop Data Collector (LDC) for the first time and do not have an existing database, disregard this section and move on the Installing Roadsoft – New Users section of the online manual. If you have an existing database, please review the following documentation before proceeding with the Roadsoft update instructions.

Complete Outstanding Data Collection Activities

Are you right in the middle of the data collection cycle using the LDC? Do you still need to create an export for your Regional office? How about TAMC reporting? Does anyone else share data with you through a Roadsoft export?
Make sure all of these issues are resolved before you upgrade.

Backup your Database

A database backup is an easy, effective way to guard against data loss due to unexpected problems. Use the Database Manager to create a backup, then make sure to move a copy of that backup to another machine or a portable storage device to protect it from problems.

Migration

Migrations are an important aspect of keeping your database current. Major releases contain the latest Framework (map) and will also include current crash and bridge data. If you are receiving a message when you open the Roadsoft application indicating the need for migration, complete the migration BEFORE updating.
