Roadsoft Mobile Setup
Download Roadsoft Mobile at no cost from the Google Play Store for Android devices (version 4.0.3 or higher) or from Apple’s App Store for iOS devices (version 8.3 and up). Currently, Roadsoft Mobile is available for two asset types (Culverts and Signs) and their Work Orders, Maintenance, Inspections, Stream Crossing Surveys, and Ratings; however, other Roadsoft module options may become available in the future.
Customers must have a Roadsoft Cloud Key to use Roadsoft Mobile. Customers can request a Roadsoft Cloud Key from the Center for Technology & Training. Agencies/companies only need one key for all devices.
After setting up Roadsoft Mobile, see Upload for Mobile for instructions on sending data from Roadsoft to cloud storage (Roadsoft Mobile accesses uploaded data from cloud storage). Follow instructions for learning to Use Roadsoft Mobile (completing work orders, inspections & maintenance, etc.). See Submit and Download Completed Work for instructions on submitting completed data from Roadsoft Mobile and retrieving it in Roadsoft.
This document uses the term Overflow Menu for
Icon Definitions the icon (three stacked dots) found at the top right corner of Roadsoft Mobile (indicated by arrow below).
Not all devices will have this option. Some devices may have a dedicated Menu button instead. Some buttons, tabs, or other elements may appear differently than documented depending on the device and device operating system.
Most Android and iOS devices have Voice-to-text functionality built in. Leverage this technology when using the Roadsoft Mobile App, particularly when filling out the Short Description, Work Details, and Worker Comments fields. Look for the microphone icon (indicated by arrow below).
Set Cloud Key - Desktop
Roadsoft functionality provides customers a way to submit and retrieve data to/from cloud storage for Roadsoft Mobile. To take advantage of this functionality, agencies must submit a cloud key request to the Center for Technology & Training. Technical support staff processes requests within 24-48 hours. After establishing a cloud key for an agency, enter it in both the Roadsoft desktop program and the Roadsoft Mobile. There are two ways to set the Roadsoft Cloud Key within Roadsoft Mobile.
1. From the main menu, select Tools.
2. Select Cloud Management.
3. Select Set Roadsoft Cloud Key….
4. Enter the key provided (copy & paste is strongly suggested) in the MERL Cloud Key window.
5. Select the OK button.
6. Select the OK button when validation completes successfully.
Set Cloud Key - Mobile
Roadsoft has functionality allowing customers to submit and retrieve data to/from cloud storage for Roadsoft Mobile. To take advantage of this functionality, agencies must submit a cloud key request to the Center for Technology & Training. Technical support staff processes the request within 24-48 hours. Once the agency acquires an established cloud key, it must be entered into both the Roadsoft desktop program and the Roadsoft Mobile. The Roadsoft Cloud Key can be set two ways within Roadsoft Mobile.
1. Select the Set Roadsoft Cloud Key button, or select the Set Key option from the overflow menu.
The first option listed only appears when Roadsoft Mobile starts for the first time. After the key is set, this option will no longer appear.
2. In the field marked Key, copy/paste or type in the key.
3. Select the Validate Key button.
A dialog box will appear indicating validation in process. When completed, a message will appear below the Validate Key button indicating success or failure. Review instructions provided in the window for troubleshooting submission failures.
4. Select the Done button when validation completes successfully.
Change Background/Text Color
Depending on the time of day and location, seeing the application on the device may be difficult. Roadsoft Mobile has two interchangeable “themes” to help with visibility.
Themes are not available for iOS. This applies to Android devices only.
1. From the first Roadsoft Mobile screen, select the Overflow Menu icon.
2. Select Change Theme.
3. Select Light or Dark depending on which one is already active.
4. Select Apply to make the change.
Application Settings options are accessible through the gear icon at the top right corner of Roadsoft Mobile. Using the application settings, make adjustments to modify some Roadsoft Mobile features, as well as adjustments for how to display the map and the menu options.
1. Select the Application Settings icon (indicated by arrow below).
a. To hide or rearrange the available tabs, under Edit Layout select the [Asset] Module Tabs button.
The button will display the name of the currently selected asset type.
i. Select the Hide/Show button to hide or display the selected tab.
ii. Select the Up/Down buttons to change the order of the tabs.
iii. Select the OK button to save changes.
b. Use the drop down or the selection controls to change the available map settings.
i. Conditional Visibility – Select the drop down, then select the desired option, and select the Apply button.
ii. Show Performance Warning – Select the selection control (right/green/yes = on, left/white/no = off).
When this setting is on, a dialog box will appear every time shapes need a longer than normal time to appear on the map. When the setting is off, the dialog box will not appear.
iii. Auto Update Visible Shapes – Select the selection control (right/green/yes = on, left/white/no = off).
When this setting is on, the signs and supports will automatically refresh when browsing the map. When the setting is off, use the refresh button when browsing the map to see the signs and supports for the current location on the map.
iv. Show Loaded Shape Count Notification – Select the selection control (right/green/yes = on, left/white/no = off).
When this setting is on, a dialog box will appear every time the map refreshes providing the number of loading support shapes for the current location on the map. When the setting is off, the dialog box will not appear.
v. Map Type - Select the drop down, then select the desired option, and select the Apply button.
c. Add a work crew name in the Work Crew field.
The work crew entered will stay on the device and apply to all completed work until changed in the settings.
2. Select the Save button to confirm changes.
